Award winning musician Anna Massie to launch new Folk’ness music series this Saturday
Highly acclaimed Scottish folk musician, singer and multi-instrumentalist Anna Massie will launch a new live music series, Folk’ness, which kicks off this Saturday, 4 July, at the Barony Theatre in Bo’ness.
Aiming to celebrate folk, roots and traditional music, the new live music series has been organised by Falkirk Arts, in association with Cailleach Music and will be hosted in one of the Falkirk area’s most intimate performance spaces.
Widely recognised as one of Scotland’s foremost guitarists, Anna Massie is equally at home as an accompanist, melody player, singer and multi-instrumentalist. Known for her work with Blazin’ Fiddles and RANT, she also presents BBC Radio Scotland’s award-winning flagship traditional music programme, Travelling Folk.
A four-time nominee for Best Instrumentalist at the Scots Trad Music Awards, Anna won the Trad Music in the Media award in 2021 for her Black Isle Correspondent work and was named Producer of the Year in 2022. Her solo album Two Down has placed her centre stage as a solo artist, showcasing her breadth as a musician, songwriter, and performer.
The launch of Folk’ness comes as Scottish folk and traditional music continues to attract growing audiences. Recent live-event figures point to continuing momentum, with Celtic Connections 2026 recording more than 114,000 attendances across 300-plus gigs in 25 Glasgow venues, up from 110,000 attendances in 2025.
Folk’ness will present monthly live music events in Barony Theatre, offering audiences an up-close experience of leading and emerging artists in the contemporary folk, roots, and traditional music scene.
Following the opening concert with Anna Massie, with Ellie Beaton is support, the Folk’ness programme will continue with performances from Rain of Animals on Saturday 1 August, Cahalen Morrison on Saturday 5 September, Malin Lewis on Saturday 3 October and Fell Line on Saturday 7 November.
Hazel Beattie, Arts Development Officer at Falkirk Council said: “To launch Folk’ness with Anna Massie shows how we mean to go on. She is one of the most respected and versatile artists in Scottish folk, and the Barony Theatre offers the perfect intimate setting for audiences to experience her musicianship up close. Folk’ness will bring outstanding live music to Bo’ness while adding something distinctive to Scotland’s wider what’s on calendar.”
